Based on the engagement results we’ve seen from our clients, the short answer is YES!
One particular client of ours was struggling with a lack of engagement on his LinkedIn posts. He was posting consistently but with very little interaction from his contacts. When we looked at his posts, we noticed a pattern of articles, links, and graphics that were all company and industry-focused. We challenged him to incorporate a little more of himself into his content. He could still keep his profile ‘professional’ but infuse some of his personality, passion, and perspective.
He accepted our challenge, and his first ‘personalized’ post was about his passion for breeding Vizsla puppies. He connected the dots between his passion for these beautiful dogs and his passion for serving his customers. The post received more views, comments, likes, and shares than his previous ten posts combined.
This is one of many examples we’ve seen where loosening the tie, removing the jacket, rolling up the sleeves, and bringing a more authentic approach have vastly improved engagement.
The action I’d like you to take next week:
  • Add your unique perspective to any professional articles or links you share.
  • Do one post that has nothing (or very little) to do with your business and has more to do with the different areas of your life.
  • Participate in ‘Thank You Thursday’ by thanking a local business or professional for their exceptional service.
  • Bonus! Fridays are for fun! Try giving the gift of laughter (or a smile) with something humorous, entertaining, or inspiring. Social media has become pretty unkind as of late – do your part to bring the ‘social’ back to social media!
Yes, LinkedIn is a business social media site—but that doesn’t mean it has to be boring. I encourage you to add a mix of content that includes your whole self—both the professional and the personal side! Don’t worry—you don’t have to bare your soul—as the Genie in Aladdin said, Just Beeeee Yourself!!
