Crack the Algorithm Code

Have you ever felt like your awesome videos were falling flat on social media? You’re not alone. The digital landscape is changing faster than you can say ‘viral video.’ Let’s dive into why your amazing content might not get the love it deserves.

As a speaker, capturing video has always been a top priority for me. My team would post those videos to social media and not be overly concerned with the length of each video.

As years passed and attention spans shrunk, social media platforms trended toward shorter videos. They also viewed vertical videos as a positive instead of a negative, like in years past.

We saw the negative impact this was having on our views, likes, and other engagement metrics so . . .

▪️ WE WENT TO WORK ON EDITING THE ORIGINAL VIDEOS ▪️

  1. We formatted the videos to make them VERTICAL.
  2. We brought the timing to UNDER a minute.
  3. We added TRENDING AUDIO where it made sense.

What was the result?

We quickly saw a spike in our engagement metrics because we reformatted our videos to fit what the algorithms were looking for today.

Let’s be honest—a lot of people out there are complaining about the algorithm—but it is important to remember that the way people use social media has changed, too.

Shorter attention spans, a preference for mobile consumption, and a growing demand for authenticity are just a few of the factors driving these algorithmic shifts.

LET’S GO DEEPER ⤵

Here are some Social Media Behavior Changes we are seeing:

Short attention spans: People are consuming content faster than ever before. Short-form videos, like Reels and TikTok, have become increasingly popular.

  • Even LinkedIn just announced they are creating their own video feed that mimics similar video feeds like that of Instagram and TikTok.

Increased mobile consumption: With the rise of smartphones, people are more likely to consume content on the go, leading to a preference for vertical videos and quick-loading content.

  • Delivering information up-front and quickly is key. Readability is important when we have such a small viewing screen. Use emojis, bullets, and spacing to make your content organized and easy to read.

Demand for authenticity: Audiences are craving genuine connections and relatable content.

  • Behind-the-scenes glimpses and raw, unfiltered content are resonating more than polished productions.

▪ Visual-first approach: People are more likely to engage with visually appealing content.

  • High-quality images and videos are essential for capturing attention.

Algorithm dependency: Users are becoming increasingly aware of how algorithms influence the content they see, leading to a desire to understand and optimize for these systems.

  • Social media sites spend a lot of time and money on new feature adoption and want them to succeed. So, as a savvy content marketer, it would be wise for you to be an early adopter and jump at the chance to experiment with their latest and greatest creations.
