Don’t You Forget About Me

Don’t You Forget About Me

Is there a better movie/song combo than The Breakfast Club and that Simple Mind’s classic? You can hear two notes and instantly be taken back to the perfect ending of that cult classic.

Like the kids in The Breakfast Club, we all desire to connect and be remembered. And in business, that can be the difference between getting the sale or losing out to the competition.

By consistently sharing valuable content and engaging with your audience, you can build trust, increase credibility, and stay ‘top of mind’ until people are ready to buy from you.

01. THE POWER OF STAYING TOP OF MIND: A SUCCESS STORY 📣

All that matters is that they remember you – and I had to remind myself of this after hearing how this dentist began working with our agency, Impact Social.

Four years after he heard me speak, the dentist called me to engage our social media marketing agency. When I asked him how he remembered me, he said he’d been following me on LinkedIn.

I remarked, “That’s funny, I never saw you like or comment on anything.” He quickly responded, “Yeah, I don’t really read them, I just see your name come up from time to time.”

Ouch!

He went on to say that he knew the content was valuable; he just didn’t have time to read the posts or watch the videos. In this case, it wasn’t necessary that he gained value from my content, but that he just had my name on his mind when he was ready to buy.

It was a hit to my ego, but a sale nonetheless!

We must fight the uphill battle of becoming forgotten by our prospects between the time they discover us and when they are ready to buy from us.

Let’s be honest, that time can be days, months, or sometimes even years!

By having a plan in place to connect with prospects on social media, we increase the chances of being remembered by them.

02. ENCOURAGE PROSPECTS TO FOLLOW/CONNECT WITH YOU 📲

▪ Run Contests – People love to win stuff. As an example, we worked with a golf technology company whose followers got extremely motivated by the opportunity to win their cool products. Find the right contest or giveaway to motivate followers to connect!

▪ Create Ad Campaigns – When you run a social media ad campaign, it’s important to have a clear goal in place. When our clients are looking to increase their following, running a targeted ad for them to potential prospects is a quick and effective way to do so. We also run remarketing campaigns to target those who have visited our client’s website in hopes that the visitor will follow them on social media.

▪ Leverage Cross-Promotions – Use your other marketing assets like blogs, podcasts, e-newsletters, or videos to encourage people to connect with you on your social platforms.

▪ Just Ask! – An easy and often overlooked strategy is to simply ask to connect with prospects. When we get a new lead, we often add them to our email database but forget to connect on LinkedIn. I would argue that a connection on LinkedIn is a better antidote for being forgotten than simply adding them to an email marketing list.

▪ Design Signage and QR Codes – If you have a physical location, like a store or office, signage on display is a great way to encourage a social media connection. By using a QR Code, people can take out their phones and quickly get to your social media profiles. I recommend encouraging a connection with a special offer or discount.

03. READY TO TAKE ACTION? 🥊

✔️Connect – Make a point to follow your clients/customers’ social media accounts whenever possible.

✔️Communicate – Like and share your customers’ posts, comment when you are able, and add value when you can.

✔️Convert – Earn trust by delivering consistent, compelling content. Being a valued resource is the secret to being unforgettable from research mode all the way to buy mode.

Now let me ask you . . .  are you missing a step? How do you use social platforms to stay “Top of Mind” with your customers?

🤓 A Success Story is featured in every chapter of my new book, ‘Authentically Social’. These stories are about an organization, business, or individual that put one of my Authentically Social principles into action and saw tangible results.
