AI, Algorithms, and Attention Spans—Oh My!
And you might ask yourself… how did I get here?
One minute you’re replying to a comment… the next, you’re three “For You” pages deep into cold case theories, grilled cheese hacks, and a guy explaining the algorithm like he’s Morpheus from The Matrix.
Welcome to the wild world of doomscrolling—something we tackled head-on in a recent episode of The Big Biz Show. I joined the always-entertaining hosts to talk about what’s changing in the digital space (spoiler: a lot), what’s still working, and what you really need to focus on as a business owner in 2025.
But if you’re short on time (and let’s be honest, you probably are), here’s your highlight reel:
01. Doomscrolling Is Real. So Is Laughter Scrolling: Our digital behavior is a rollercoaster. One moment it’s negative headlines, the next it’s cat videos.
Here’s how to shift the scroll:
✔️ Follow accounts that inspire or uplift — not just inform
✔️ Mute or unfollow what drains you (it’s not personal, it’s self-care)
✔️ Save one post that made you smile — and use it as inspiration for your next piece of content
✔️ Reset your feed — intentionally like, save, or engage with content you want more of (yes, the algorithm is listening 👀)
02. Reels Got Longer. But Your Hook Needs to Get Shorter: Reels are now up to 3 minutes (huge!). But if you don’t grab attention in the first 6 seconds, you’ve lost them. Lead with the good stuff—don’t bury the hook.
03. SEO Isn’t Dead. It Just Moved: Your social posts now show up in search. That means your IG captions, YouTube descriptions, even your LinkedIn posts should include key search terms.
04. Misleading Thumbnails = Digital Catfishing: We all hate clicking a juicy thumbnail only to land on meh content. Don’t do that to your audience. Instead, align your visuals with value. Give them what you promised.
05. Own Your Platform. Don’t Just Rent It: TikTok? Uncertain. Instagram? Algorithm roulette. My suggestion: build your email list and keep your website current. Rented land can disappear—but owned assets stay yours.
06. AI Is the Intern, Not the Star: AI can help you brainstorm, outline, and speed things up. But your voice, your personal stories, your perspective? That’s what keeps people coming back.
Try this week’s “Digital Tune-Up” Checklist:
✅ Audit your most recent reel or video. Did it hook your viewer in 6 seconds or less?
✅ Pick one keyword your clients would Google to find you. Use it in your next social post.
✅ Create one piece of “owned” content: email, blog post, or website update.
✅ If you’re using AI, review your content. Does it sound like you?
✅ Add value before you add volume. If your content helps someone, they’ll stick around.
Digital marketing doesn’t need to feel like chasing a moving target.
Yes, the landscape shifts. Platforms evolve. Attention spans shrink.
But the fundamentals? They stay the same:
✔️Say what you do clearly
✔️Add real value
✔️Be human, not hype
And when in doubt, stop doomscrolling and start connecting.
