2009 was a big year in the Perlman household. I decided to leave my stable, salaried job to start my own business…right before my wife Jessica told me she was pregnant with our first child. Oh boy. Or should I say girl – we welcomed Talia Ruby into the world in 2010.
And in 2010 we also secured our first agency client. I had launched my book, eBoot Camp, and was doing a lot of speaking on the takeaways from the book. A gentleman in the audience came up after my talk and said, ‘I understand enough about what you said to know I need it. Can you help?’ And just like that, we were officially in business. Now when I say ‘we’, I specifically mean, well, me. I was fired up to create his Facebook posts, email pieces and blog articles. But then HE quickly turned into THREE and the next thing I knew I was comforting Talia from teething in one arm while Tweeting in the other. I needed help. So I hired my first account manager, Jodi, who is with us to this day as our VP of Marketing.
Over the past ten years, we’ve had an amazing journey as a digital marketing agency. We’ve grown year after year and I’m so proud of the dynamic, talented team we’ve created.
We’ve been lucky enough to work with amazing clients in multiple industries. Training & development, dentistry, real estate, travel, and automotive, just to name a few. We’ve worked with hundreds of clients on their social media and digital marketing strategy while also helping them execute the strategy.
In those ten years, we’ve learned a lot. Both from our successes, as well as our failures. Principles, rules and philosophies that seem to come up time and time again. This goal of this book is simple: to summarize a decade of learnings into 21 Golden Rules.
I want this book to sit at the desk of anyone that ever touches your social media or digital marketing. They don’t need to make the same mistakes we made to learn the valuable lessons that came from them.
