We are in the middle of our monthly series on Digital Engagement. And since many of us in the States are gearing up for Thanksgiving, I thought it would be appropriate to talk about gratitude and how it can impact our digital engagement.
Personally, I love this time of year because it reminds me of how important it is to reflect on our blessings and not get stuck in the comparison trap. Just yesterday, during our team meeting, we spent the first 15 minutes expressing our gratitude for each other. Let’s not sugarcoat it – it’s been a tumultuous and challenging year, but just shifting our focus on what we’re grateful for can have a transformational impact on us and everyone around us.
So what does that have to do with engagement on our social and digital marketing?
Everything.
Here’s my challenge for you for the upcoming week and the rest of November:
  1. How can you express your gratitude to your customers? Specifically, in what ways can you do this via your social media and digital marketing? What if you wrote (or recorded) a thank you message to all you’ve had the privilege to serve over the past year and during this pandemic?
  2. How can you express your gratitude for your team? I’m referring to your employees, colleagues, partners, etc. What if you gave a social media shoutout to a team member every day for the rest of the month?
  3. How can you express your gratitude to your family? I recently saw a LinkedIn post from a friend who’s the CEO of a large organization. This post was a picture of him and his daughters and how the silver lining to this pandemic was the time he’s been able to spend with them. This post saw more engagement than any of his others over the past month.
  4. Finally, how can you express gratitude on social media? My simple answer: Engage. Spend 15 minutes a day engaging with other people’s posts on social media. Thank them for their work, answer questions, be an audience member. They will feel your appreciation and gratitude through your participation on their posts.
What do you think? Any bets on if you follow the recipe above that your engagement will see an uptick? I’d love to hear your feedback and results if you choose to accept my challenge. We will post this challenge on our social channels below – please visit and share your results!
Finally, I sincerely thank you for being a loyal subscriber to our weekly eTip. I hope it’s brought some value to you and your business, and if you keep reading, I’ll keep writing. I appreciate you.
