Instagram is the one of the most popular social media platforms on the planet, with seemingly everyone on the site. But are you utilizing Instagram to its fullest potential when it comes to your business?

Make sure your caption includes a Call to Action: ask a question and invite your audience to tell you something. You can even ask them to tag someone, which would potentially introduce your page to an even wider audience!
Selecting the best hashtags will help your posts get noticed by the right people. Don’t go too generic (using #blessed won’t get you anywhere) – make sure your hashtags are a mix of trending topics and industry-specific keywords. That way you’ll find your desired audience where they are!
And don’t go overboard with the hashtags…while Instagram allows up to 30, that isn’t always a great idea. Posts with that many hashtags may come across as cluttered or unprofessional. The sweet spot would be up to seven hashtags.
Also, keep this in mind when writing longer captions:
Using Instagram’s Stories feature is a great way to compliment to the rest of your content. Stories have a more in-the-moment feel and allow you to personalize what you post just a bit more, and show a different side of your brand that wouldn’t normally be seen through your traditional feed. It’s a great way to show what goes on behind the scenes at your business, or feature exclusive content. You can also post photos from your timeline to your Story, or tease a new post and direct people to it.
Make sure to utilize Highlights! This is where you can save Stories that you’ve posted for people to come back to and view. They will appear at the top of your Instagram profile page. All Stories will disappear after 24 hours, unless they’ve been added to a Highlight. You can even categorize your Highlights by topic!
  • Get out there and ENGAGE with people. It isn’t enough to just post photos – make sure you are responding to comments, as well as liking and commenting on others’ posts.
  • Be strategic with the timing of your posts. Want to know when is the best time to post? Pay attention to your analytics! Post your content when your audience is most active.
  • Be current with trends and changes. Be willing to shift your strategy when necessary, because you’ll find your audience has shifted there as well.
